The obituary notice of Iwan Arwyn EVANS

My first trip across the pond to Wales was punctuated by Iwan welcoming me into the family. With a story to tell, a space mission fact to teach, and a can of Pringles to share, this sweet, jovial man made me feel right at home. I was lucky to be given a tour of Iwan’s workshop and even whisked around Blaenau in his vintage war-time vehicle that he took so much pride in. How lucky are we to have been able to share even one afternoon with Iwan?

Our sweet, silly, beloved cousin. Keeper of the family lore & purveyor of the Pringles. Iwan will be dearly missed by us all, he was such a lovely presence in our lives and we cherish our memories with him during our many visits to Blaenau. xo

I am so grateful for Iwan and the wonderful times we shared during my visits to Wales over the last 30+ years. He brought so much fun, humour and adventure to our outings to beaches, castles and museums. I loved his vivid sense of imagination and the way he made the castles we visited come alive for me as a kid. I learned so much about our family through his research and admired his curiosity and persistence in his research. I will always remember him as a warm, thoughtful and gentle presence. We are so lucky to have had him as part of our family!

Iwan will always have a special spot in my heart. He greeted me with a warm welcome and a gentle smile on my first visit to North Wales over forty years ago and on each of the many visits I have made with family since then. Thank you Iwan for sharing your love of steam engines, for rides in your WWII jeep, for trips to local castles and beaches and for sharing your Jaffa cakes. Rest in peace.
