I knew George mostly in the 1980s when we performed a number of concerts together with George playing flute and sometimes clarinet. Such a lovely man with a wonderful sense of humour that audiences and all of us loved.I still have some old recorded tracks from those recitals around Manchester venues. R.I.P George.

Sad to hear of George’s passing. He taught me to play the clarinet in primary school. He always made us laugh and introduced me to a different genre of music I may never have discovered. RIP George.

I am very sad to learn of the passing of my former flute teacher. George taught me to play the flute for 5yrs at high school. I was so very fond of him and his sense of humour. Never forgotten the joy and laughter from those lessons with him.

Thinking of George today on his birthday.
My family were very sad to hear he had passed away. He taught my children saxophone and clarinet. We were extremely fond of him and loved his fun-loving nature and brilliant sense of humour. He was a legend and we will always remember him with a smile. We will raise a glass to him this evening.
Sending best wishes to his family.

I knew George through his peripatetic work with Manchester Music Service at Mauldeth Road Primary School. George gave me a few flute lessons so I might keep up with the children. He was always full of fun with a great sense of humour. I engaged him to play at my 60th birthday party in Cumbria after I retired. A wonderful memory for me. RIP George you brought a lot of pleasure to people’s lives.

Never thought I would outlast George as he looked OK although he had stopped playing.I once had a lesson from him. I was at the bar with a friend and George was playing his tenor and during his solo he walked over to us and blew some loud low notes from about two feet away. So the lesson was "Don't talk when the band is playing". Good advice from a local legend and we will all miss him a lot, even his jokes no matter how many times he told them!

I am so sad to hear that George has passed away. He taught me to play the flute from the age of 11, a young girl from a Manchester council estate who had no musical background whatsoever. He taught me to make my flute sing and gave me a wonderful outlet in the form of music. I was lucky enough to make contact once again with him in later years. I shall miss his jokes and his wonderful wit. My condolences to all of his family.
