GladysGREENWOOD(nee Fishwick) died on Thursday, June 27 at the age of 84. She was born and bred in Church, Accrington. She was the eldest of four children born from Gladys and Frederick Fishwick. She leaves two brothers Roy and Derek and her youngest brother Jeffrey passed before her. She attended St James Primary School and Accrington High School for Girls. As an active member of St James Church she became a Sunday School teacher and an active member of the bellringing team. Gladys was married to Terry in September 1961 and lived in Accrington. She then became an active member of St Pauls Church, Accrington where she became an enrolling member of the Mother’s Union for over 20 years and was deeply involved in the organising of catering arrangements for many church functions. Gladys was involved in raising monies for various charities and her principle one was Derian House. One of her events was walking from Liverpool to Leeds on the canal which was done in stages over a period of weeks. Her love of flowers was the reason she became an allotment holder which was her passion for more than 45 years. Gladys enjoyed her holidays at home and abroad. She enjoyed swimming in the warm clear waters of Greece and the Mediterranean. Home holidays were enjoyed in England, Scotland and Wales. Gladys worked very hard all her life caring for her nearest and dearest, her mother and many other people as a Home Help. Gladys leaves her devoted husband Terry of 62 years, her sons Andrew and James, her loving daughter-in-law Lynn and her grandsons Ben, Sam and Joe. She is greatly missed. The funeral will take place at St Paul’s Church on Friday, July 19 at 12.45pm, followed by her cremation at Accrington Cemetery at 1.40pm. Family flowers only and any donations can be made via Hyndburn Funeral Services to Derian House.

Condolences to the family. I grew up around the corner as a young boy playing with James. Gladys was always welcoming, forever smiling when in her presence and always had the welcome biscuits ready. Thoughts with James and the family, lovely woman. Gareth Jones ❤️
