We remember going to get crossaints and pain au chocolates in Pops' Yellow Fiat Panda, and going on long walks along the coast path with Poppy (Who got lots of treats!). Pops loved watching the ships sailing past and telling us all about them.

Peter, his twin David and I grew up in the Cotswolds. Our father returned from the war and we went to boarding school at a young age. Peter and his twin David went to a Jesuit prep school followed by Beaumont College. Peter excelled in writing and won prizes. He also loved the water and trains. We had a stream along side a railway line on our property and Peter would spend many hours fishing and monitoring the local steam train as it sped between Newton Abbot and Moreton Hampstead. Peter’s love of the water took him to the Merchant Navy College in Plymouth and then to a position as a Cadet with Shell tankers. After 2 years Peter decided this was not the life for him and he joined the Financial Times as shipping correspondent. His career led him to the fields of Public Relations and a partnership in his own company. In retirement Peter spent time on his boat and loved walking the cliffs of Cornwall with the family dog.

My brother David and I are grateful to Peter and Rosalind for taking good care of our parents after our move to North America and Canada.

To my wonderful stepfather Peter, who was like a 2nd father to me. I will never forget our incredible trips through France to Corsica, being educated in gastronomy and film-making en route. The epic movie Le Package sadly never won an Oscar, but did confuse the residents of Porto Vecchio! Your humour was wonderful, collapsing into giggles at the ridiculous, even in the 'poshest' of establishments, and Mr Bean was a favourite! I owe to you a love of Jilly Cooper novels (you gave me my first!), sailing (you taught me to sail), food (those memorable French trips), and, to the ire of my children, the desire to find the perfect picnic spot no matter how long it takes. And yes, there must be a river, shade, a quite field and (ideally) a railway! We all miss our walks with you along the Cornish cliff paths, accompanied by yarns and anecdotes, and Poppy our labrador misses the generous pocketfuls of biscuits! I feel honoured to have been loved by you, learnt so much from you and a part of your life.

Peter was my boss twice, at Planned Public Relations and then at Gulf Oil. We traveled a good deal together mainly to the US and Canada. We became great friends. Peter and Rosalind honoured me by asking me to be Edward’s Godfather. Ever since, Edward has called me God which has been a bonus. I miss Peter and the fun times we had with him and his family.
