We will love you forever Grandad.

Condolences to all Jim's family.

Jim didn't spend much time in Barnsley after his mum got remarried to my Dad as he eventually returned to Doncaster to live with his Grandma and Grandad Whitfield. But when he was in town he certainly made his presence known.
He was a year older than me and I looked up to him as a "Big Brother". As a 12 year old he was well built and very strong and his black hair and good looks made him popular with the girls.
When we went to the local recreation ground to play football everybody wanted to be on Jim's side as you knew that if you were not then you were in for a battering. What he lacked in football skills he more than made up for in his physicality, and lived up to his given nickname of the "Dark Destroyer"
He displayed a good work ethic at an early age when his mum got him a Saturday morning job at the local garage she worked at. He was changing tyres the old fashioned way with tyre levers, and he just loved the hard graft of it all and getting his huge hands mucky!
He did however have a very mischievous side to him. During a playtime session of Cowboys and Indians he staked me out in the back garden, he being the Apache Indian, me being the gullible cowboy. After making sure that I was securely tied up he said "Adios Paleface" and did a runner leaving me out in the mid day sun. When he returned an hour later I was no longer a paleface but more like a beetroot!
I have only recently forgiven you for that one Jim.
We didn't spend that much time together Jim but when we did it was a real blast!
Sorry that I can't be there to see you off.

Very sad to hear of Jim’s passing and apologies I cannot make today’s send off .

I always enjoyed a chat with Jim when coming to pay Hamptons a visit , and will always be grateful for his support .

It's hard to believe you're gone. I'll always remember your sayings—they never failed to make me laugh. Thank you for the laughs, the banter, and the respect we shared. I'm grateful our paths crossed, and I'll remember you with a smile.
