William KennethJONESKen Jones of Llanrumney, Cardiff passed away on 10th November 2024 aged 82. Ken was born in Llwynypia in 1941 to William and Edith Jones. After his mother died in childbirth he was brought up by his aunt and uncle Martha and Alfred Green, who treated him as their son. He grew up in the town of Tonypandy in the Rhondda Fawr Valley amidst the love of the Jones and Green families. Ken married his late wife Mary Elizabeth Jones in 1967 at St. Mellons Parish Church. Ken had three children, Ruth, Gareth and Keith. Ken worked with passion his entire professional life in the railway industry, starting as boy porter aged 15. He trained to be a railway signalman. Ken worked in a number of signal boxes across South Wales including spells at Walnut Tree Junction at Taff's Well, Radyr and Newport. His love of trains lasted a lifetime. Ken was a devoted family man. Supporting his beloved wife Mary they together brought up their eldest child Ruth to enjoy life through the challenges of brain damage at birth and Prader-Willi syndrome. Following the death of Mary in 2007 Ken continued to care and love his daughter Ruth until her death in 2014. Ken's later life saw him delight in the birth of his four grandchildren, Katie, Rachel, William and Huw. He took added pleasure in his grandson being named William after him, as he had been after his father and his grandfather before him. A season ticket holder at Cardiff City for over twenty one seasons, after a lifetime of supporting the Bluebirds, Ken passed on his love of Cardiff City to his son Keith and his two grandsons Will and Huw whom he sat with at matches. A proud Welshman Ken avidly followed the Welsh rugby team as well as his beloved Glamorgan in cricket. Funeral service to be held at St. Mellons Parish Church, Church Lane, Old. St. Mellons, Cardiff CF3 5UP at 10am on Friday 6th December 2024 followed by interment at Thornhill Cemetery, Thornhill Road, Cardiff CF14 9UA at 11:30am. The family invite guests to join them at Cardiff Golf Club, Sherborne Avenue, Cyncoed, Cardiff, CF23 6SJ following the funeral. Family flowers only.
