Dave also had to deal with the restrictions which came from living with Type 1 diabetes which he faced with typical determination. He was so disciplined that you could honestly say he had the disease under control, rather than the other way round if that is at all possible.
In our youth, we were constantly together, playing a great deal of rugby together for both John Bright’s and Llandudno RFC. During his school years, Dave was named captain of our highly successful School 1st Team, which remained undefeated. His rugby talent was also recognised with a final Welsh Schoolboys rugby trial at Cardiff Arms Park, where he played alongside many future Welsh international players.
During those years, we did all the things that young boys and men got up to in the 60s and 70s, and we enjoyed a very happy, extremely eventful period growing up together.
Dave will be hugely missed by everyone who knew him well. He possessed qualities that not many people ever possess or could even dream of acquiring.
He really was that special. He loved Yvonne down to her bones and they were extremely close. He showed that same love, loyalty and closeness to every single member of his family and close friends.
MND has to be one of the cruellest diseases any human being could ever suffer from. That is why it annoys the hell out of me when this horrible disease chooses to inflict its worst possible issues on such a top-quality human beings like Dave.
Dave was a great man and a true legend.
I will miss you dearly, Dave, as will all who were lucky enough to know you as well as I did. x x x
