RichardJONESRichard ‘Ricky’ Charles Jones passed away aged 77 years, in the Critical Care Unit at Preston Royal Hospital.
He was born in Oswaldtwistle and spent his childhood in Govan, Glasgow, returning with his family to Accrington in
1968. He worked at Burco Dean and then at Associated Dairies for 25 years until its closure. He eventually went to
work at Dairy Crest Longridge cheesemaking, a job he loved, until it too closed. This then resulted in him working for 13 years at Textile Mouldings Limited. He subsequently retired at 67 years from courier company Despatch Express.
He enjoyed many recreational activities, excelling in snooker and darts playing for several local pubs teams and
winning some trophies in each. Outdoor leisure time was spent camping and hiking in Scotland, the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales and any other place where there was a mountain to climb. He was also a keen fisherman and enjoyed being a long-time member of The Prince Albert Angling Society, Macclesfield. Holidays were also spent after retirement
driving in France and Northern Spain. He also enjoyed working on his allotment and caring for the chickens he had there.
He leaves behind him his wife of 37 years Pat. Also his two stepchildren Kirstie and Owen and two much loved grandchildren Finlay and Mia, his sister Rosemary, and nephew Neil and niece Marnie and their families. He had many friends and will be sorely missed by them as well as his family members.
Many thanks to all the staff in the Critical Care Unit at Royal Preston Hospital for the outstanding care given to
Ricky. We are truly grateful.
The service at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington, will be on Wednesday, May 14, at 2.20pm.
