Don and I worked for the same company doing similar jobs, our areas boarded one another. We soon learnt that we had similar interest in walking and by some coinsidence we often had lunch breaks at the same time and at the same place followed by a walk. These walks led to weekend walks in the Lake District then to holidays together, again based on walks. We mainly stayed at Youth Hostels. We enjoyed each others company. A similar sence of humour I suppose. An illistration of this is that we walked the Coast to Coast Walk. Wainwright recommends to take 10 days over the walk we took 18 to complete the walk and we were still friends at the end. We were forever getting lost, it was Don’s fault he trusted me with reading the map. Again never a cross word. We booked a walking holiday, there was a choice between Rambling, Hiking, and Adventuring we of course chose Adventuring. The walk started in France climbed the Pyrenees and back into France. Following trails made clear by arrows painted in red on stones unfounately when we were walking snow still covered the ground and hid the arrows. We got lost and eventually had to catch a train into Spain another train back into France to get back onto the right path a, all arranged by Don not only that but Don wrote a letter of complaint to the travel company and got us a rebate of the money we had spent. Thank you Don for some marvellous memories.
