I have many fond memories of childhood holidays spent with my mum and my brother, Stuart, visiting Uncle Brian, Aunty Wendy, and our cousins, Gordon and Russell. We always looked forward to travelling from Manchester to Newcastle during the school holidays to see them and our many other relatives.

In later years, Uncle Brian and Aunty Wendy were incredibly generous in taking my mum and her sister, Doreen, on holidays to Scotland. I especially remember how much my mum enjoyed those trips and how often she spoke about places such as Pitlochry. One standout memory for me is Uncle Brian’s red and green curries, made from scratch, which felt wonderfully exotic in the early 1970s.

With deepest condolences to Uncle Brian’s family.
