STEVE DULLAGHANSteve Dullaghan, who was found dead at his home in Coventry on 4 February, 2009, was the bass player with late '80s indie outfit The Primitives. The power pop quartet formed in the West Midlands in 1985 were best known for their 1987 hit single Crash, which Dullaghan co-wrote with singer Tracy Tracy and guitarist Paul Court. Crash reached number five in the UK and also charted in America. The band combined Ramones punk with Smiths indie (Morrissey was apparently a fan) and proclaimed a great cynicism for the music industry with song titles like Really Stupid (1986) and Sick Of It (1989). Tracy's good looks led to comparisons with Blondie. After Crash they had further chart success with Out of Reach, Way Behind Me (both 1988) and Secrets (1989) and they were also successful on the US Modern Rock chart. They split in 1992 after releasing four albums. The use of Crash on the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack (1994) led to a revival of interest and the song has since been taken into the charts by Australian signer Chloe (2005) and former Busted singer Matt Willis (2007).Steve Dullaghan was born in Leamington and played with the Nocturnal Babies before and after his stint with The Primitives.
