EvelynWALSHEBorn in Bridgwater, Somerset, Jill was a long-standing resident of Oakwood, Derby, having previously lived in Matlock. Wherever she made her home, she was a deeply respected member of both her community and her church, where her Christian faith was the foundation of her life.

Jill enjoyed a varied and fulfilling career, including roles within insurance, with the Arkwright Society, and in Local Government in both Matlock and Derby. She took great pride in her work, particularly within the Policy Units, where her meticulous attention to detail and natural investigative ability, underpinned by a strong interest in local and family history, ensured she consistently delivered an exceptional standard of service.

A generous and compassionate individual, Jill devoted time to charitable causes, including collecting for DAB, and served as a qualified member of St John Ambulance. She had a great love of nature and animals, and her curiosity led her to travel widely with her daughters. Principled and inquisitive, she was always in search of truth and knowledge. She greatly valued education and continued to develop new skills throughout her life, including learning to play the piano. Always ahead of her time, Jill had a quiet way of setting trends rather than following them.

She will be dearly missed by her loving family, including her twin sister and her two daughters.

Jill's funeral service will be held at St Mary's Church, Crich on Tuesday 14th July 2026 at 11:00am followed by a burial in Crich Cemetery.

Donations made in lieu can be sent to Alzheimer's Society & Dementia Palliative Care Services, Derby.

Family request attendees to wear a "splash of blue in Jill's memory"

“How’s my dear Jonny, my best friend?” - that’s how this truly special lady used to greet me. Add to that a wonderful smile, with a special twinkle in her eye. Every time I saw her was such a pleasure, such a gift. We got on, we had the same silly sense of humour. We could chat and giggle away for hours, and it usually happened on our sofa when she came visiting. When she went home I always said to her “I miss you already” and she would give a big smile.
It was an honour to know you Jill, my dear friend, and I will miss you always.
With love, Jonny x

Dear Kathleen,

I was so sorry to hear about your Mam’s passing.

I know just how much of your life was devoted to caring for her. The love, patience, and dedication you showed were truly remarkable. You always went above and beyond for your Mam, and it was clear how much she meant to you.

I hope there is some comfort in knowing that you did everything possible for her and that she was so loved and cared for.

Thinking of you and your family at this very sad time and sending my sincere condolences.

Jill was a very special woman to us. Loving, humorous and caring’. She knew that God loved her and received the grace given to her. These facts afforded her comfort and hope for the future.
We knew Mum loved you both very dearly, her dear daughters, whose names were often on her lips as she had the highest regard for you both.
With our love and prayers

We were so very sad to hear of Jill’s passing. Whenever we met or spoke on the phone she was always full of enthusiasm for life and love for her family, especially of course for her pride and joy; her wonderful daughters Liz and Cauthe. It has been heartwarming to read these tributes to Jill and see how widely she was loved and appreciated. It is no surprise that mentions of her kindness, understanding and strength are to the fore, also her independence of thought. I remember Jill writing to us describing the wonderful letter of support she had written to the jailed Nelson Mandela, this was at a time when it was the not a popular thing to do, it was a brave letter to write from a kind, loving, independent woman. Jill will be greatly missed. Denis Anne Walshe and Family xxxxxxx
