I first got to know George from the view of a batsman with him umpiring at the other end (and getting sweets off him when we fielded) however he quickly became a committee colleague and friend over the years.

George will be a huge miss to us all
and his contribution to local cricket will never be forgotten.

RIP.

George was a true gentleman of cricket, a sport he clearly loved and gave a lot to. His candour, humour, and encouragement will be sadly missed on game day but he leaves a legacy for others to build on.

Rest in peace.

To My Hero I can’t believe I’m writing this. I never thought this day would come. Dad you were my life and I miss you so much my heart aches. What I would give to hear your voice one more time and hug you and tell you how much I love you. You are my best friend and soul mate and I love you with every beat of my heart. Fly high with the angels. You’re out of pain now and with my mam. Good night God Bless you always Daddy. May you RIP xxx

I only knew George through cricket where he was a wonderful stalwart who did a huge amount to revive the Hetton Lyons Sunday League and then to progress it as the forward thinking inclusive league we have now. Thank you for all you did .
