ANDREW RAMSAYFather-of-two Andrew Ramsay, who died during 2006 aged 51, was a local businessman from Glasgow and popular member of the community in the south side of the city.On 22 February 2006, Mr Ramsay was abducted whilst walking home from his local pub Quo Vadis, in Paisley Road West. His disappearance was treated as suspicious and Strathclyde Police immediately launched an inquiry into his disappearance. On 30 May 2007, his family were informed of his death following the discovery of his skull in the Firth of Clyde.Andrew Ramsay was born in March 1954 and worked for many years as an accountant both abroad and in the UK.He was last seen on the evening of 22 February, 2006 when he was abducted from outside his home in Berryknowes Road, Cardonald. On 30 May 2007 police held a press conference where Detective Superintendent William Prendergast described news of Andrew’s passing as a particularly sad day.DS Prendergast, of Strathclyde Police, said there were many questions still to be answered about what happened to Mr Ramsay."I could not stand in front of you and say that the crime we are investigating here is murder,” he said."What I will say is that it is certainly an unexplained death and I am really very keen to find out what exactly has taken place to build up a picture so that we can bring closure to this inquiry."The fisherman who made the discovery of the skull said he believed it had been dropped near the island of Little Cumbrae. The identity of the skull was later confirmed by DNA tests. It marked the culmination of an extensive police search. On the evening he was abducted, Mr Ramsay was handcuffed and thrown in a car by two men claiming to be police.Officers have since interviewed more than 1,000 people, taken 300 statements and pursued 1,300 lines of inquiry. The hunt has also taken police to cities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland - as well as Belgium to visit the accountant's associates. The abduction, which was described by DS Prendergast as the most baffling case he had ever dealt with, was also featured on BBC's Crimewatch programme.
