I can’t remember time in my life that I didn’t know Bob, he was actively involved with the Labour Party and I remember packing boxes of food for the miners during the strikes the early 80s, and his community involvement continued from there.
He worked during the 80s with President Kennedy school to set up a training facility after hours to retrain those who lost their jobs as part of the recession, and that they moved into taking over what was the toilet block on Holbrook Park.
That’s where I really became involved with Bob and his community activities, he’d been given a computer and they didn’t know how to work it so I was on maternity leave and was asked by Bob to help, which of course I did.
Bob Carefully steered Holbrook community care Association as Chair, Working to bring funding into the area to meet the needs for the community and even though he left HCCA in 2006 we regularly kept in touch he popped in from time to time.
But Bob‘s community work didn’t end with him leaving organisation he went onto work setting up the Holbrooks Ricoh arena residents Association And continued to support his community from there.
He was an avid letter writer/Emailer, I found This out being on the end of many a communication from Bob, and he also documented Holbrooks and collected photographs and information about the area over many many years, He was a real social historian.
I will always remember Bob as being a kind, humorous, honest man of integrity, His passing is a real loss to Holbrooks.
