WilfredBAKER JPWilf sadly passed away at his home of over 60 years in Scunthorpe.

Wilf celebrated 60 years of marriage to his Loving and Supportive wife Diane in April this year, and was father to Martin, Paul and daughter-in-law Liz, and amazing and beloved grandad to Charlie, Joey and Libby.

Wilf lived in Scunthorpe all his life, and spent most of his working life on the steelworks, latterly at the CEW, retiring nearly 30 years ago.

He has been active in his community from his days at the Youth Centre, Salvation Army, union member and Secretary, and becoming a councillor on Scunthorpe Borough Council in 1980 until its disbandment in 1996. Wilf was a Magistrate for many years, and was proud to serve as Chairman of Governors at Henderson Avenue Primary School where he had attended as a child, as did Diane, their children and 3 grandchildren, and where his daughter-in-law now works.

Following retirement he was a key figure in managing the track extension at Normanby Hall with the Scunthorpe Society of Model Engineers, and was still an active member. He also founded the Normanby Hall Stationary Engine and Miniature Traction Engine rally which ran annually for over 20 years. He also helped foster a Facebook group of over 1000 members worldwide, dedicated to building a specific miniature steam engine. In recent years, Wilf has been active in supporting Prostate Cancer, chairing a local support group, and participating in awareness talks, events and fundraising, and is a familiar face at the Salvation Army once again, and on the miniature railway at Normanby Hall.

The funeral is to be held on Wednesday 25th September at 10:40am at Woodlands Crematorium, Scunthorpe. Family and mourners are invited to a reception at the Salvation Army in Ashby following the funeral service, where refreshments will be served. It would help immensely if you could text 07715 457529 or email to CheersWilf@bakerbase.com if you are attending the reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Salvation Army on the day or to Prostate Cancer UK using the link provided.

Wilf will be missed by so many of his friends involved in the Prostate Cancer Lincs and Humber support group which he has been Chairman of for the past few years. Wilf was always first to volunteer to help out at any of our support group information days and took part in helping people as a one to one volunteer with Prostate Cancer UK. He has made friends throughout the Country and we have received condolences from many groups spread far and wide.
Rest in Peace Wilf.
