ColinBAMBURY23.2.1937 - 7.3.2023 (aged 86) Colin Charles Bambury was born on 23rd February 1937 to Edna and Edgar Bambury of Bedminster Down, Bristol, and had one younger brother Robert. Colin went to Redcliffe Senior School for Boys, and after leaving school in 1953 he commenced a 5 year apprenticeship at The City Metal Works (Bristol) Ltd in Emery Road, Brislington. He enjoyed cycling for a hobby in his youth, belonging to Severn Cycling Club which often saw him cycle from Bristol to Devon. Colin was on a Scouts camping trip in Lynmouth during the Lynmouth flood disaster in 1952. He met his wife Sandra Bambury (née Derrick) from Downend, Bristol in 1958. They were married in 1961 at Christchurch, Clifton and had two children, Steven and Lorraine after moving to Portishead. In 1972, Colin started his own sheet metalwork business in Bristol Road, Portishead, and later in 1975 moved to Gas Ferry Road in Bristol for a number of years before going on to build his own factory premises in Short Street, St. Philips in Bristol in 1982, where the business still continues today. Colin was passionate about sailing, and as a hobby he built his own sailing boat, a 32' Tahitiana over a 10 year period, finishing it in 1988 and sailing it around the UK. Colin thrived upon his work life and continued to work right up until his final days. After a short 6 month battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully, aged 86, with his family by his side on 7th March 2023 in Norewood Lodge Care Home in Portishead. He was dearly loved and comfort is taken in our cherished memories, remembering him for his kindness, generosity and caring nature as well as his talent for problem solving. He leaves behind his wife, two children, and five grandchildren, and brother. The Funeral Service is to be held at South Bristol Cemetery & Crematorium, Bridgwater Road, Bedminster Down, Bristol, BS13 7AS on Friday 31st March 2023 at 2:15 pm.
