DorisBARONWith deep sadness, the family of Doris Baron nee Barrett, of Oswaldtwistle, announces that she passed away peacefully in hospital on Friday, December 31 following a short illness. Doris was 92, the beloved wife of the late Karol Baron, much loved mother of John, Derek, Peter, Sonia and a stillborn baby boy, mother-in-law to Jill, Pauline, Anne and Carl, grandmother of Sarah, Paula, Richard, Rachel, Michael, Helena, Christina and Rebecca, and great-grandmother of Ben and Layla. Doris was born and lived her whole life in Oswaldtwistle. She left Rhyddings High School when she was still only 13 and started work in the offices of The Bristol Aeroplane Company, Clayton-le-Moors just after her 14th birthday. She worked there throughout WW2 and then worked in the office of a ball bearing company in Accrington. Next, she started work at Howard and Bullough’s where she met her husband Karol. The final job of her early career was working for the Clerk to the Justices at The Magistrates Court in Accrington, often taking shorthand in court and typing up the proceedings for the court records. Doris had many hobbies and interests including watching a wide variety of sport on TV, especially motorsport and football, having attended many Accrington Stanley games in her younger days. She also enjoyed knitting, doing jigsaws and crossword puzzles, listening to music and reading, but she enjoyed nothing more than being with her family. She enjoyed travelling, touring England and Wales as a pillion passenger on Karol’s motorbike. Family holidays were either camping or visiting her husband’s family in Czechoslovakia and Poland. Once her children had started school, Doris undertook a number of part-time jobs including as a school dinner lady and finally as a proofreader and book keeper for Antley Typesetting Company. She had an excellent command of the English language and would correct any errors made by her family! She was intelligent, knowledgeable and determined. Her memory was remarkable and she would recount many tales beginning “I remember when...” Doris was a member of Immanuel Church having previously attended St Andrew’s, one of its mission churches. The funeral service will be taken by Revd. Martin Joss at Immanuel Church, Oswaldtwistle on Monday, January 17 at 1pm followed by burial in the churchyard. Flowers or donations to Diabetes UK in memory of Doris will be gratefully received on behalf of the family by funeral director Darren Ramsbottom at Oswaldtwistle Funeral Services, 235 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
