I am indebted to Mr Barraclough, my first music teacher. In my first year at Christleton, back in 1986, I was part of the Junior Choir for "Too Hot to Handel?.." - his Rock Messiah concert. I absolutely loved it and it ignited my passion for singing and choral music. Mr Barraclough supported me with this, he helped me find a singing teacher outside school and often accompanied me both in school concerts and during practice times. He was so dedicated to his job, he was mostly a one-man music department, and was always available at break times and lunch times in the department to help with practice or running an ensemble rehearsal. I remember his own wonderful musical Jason & the Argonauts, as well as all of the fantastic shows and concerts the school put on, thanks to Mr Barraclough's dedication and musicality. An absolute inspiration, I am a professional singer and have also worked as a singing teacher and choir leader for many years. I would not have started out on my own musical journey without his help and his teaching. So sad to hear of this loss, but Mr Barraclough's musical legacy lives on through all of his pupils.

Mr Barraclough encouraged all pupils who were interested in music and supported their creativity in a gentle manner. His enthusiasm for the arts and his skills in arrangements always provided participants with opportunities.
Thank you for that stage confidence and the freedom to experiment musically.

It is sad to learn of the passing of Winston. He was such an amazing and inspirational musician and provided the opportunity for so many young people to perform to a high standard in a wide variety of musical styles.
He had a very creative mind and together with Frank Walker produced many superb musical events in Christleton, Chester and wider afield. Winston was always generous with his time and helped organise many successful fund raising concerts for a variety of Charities, enabling students from Primary & High School to celebrate music together to enthusiastic audiences. Rest in peace Winston, we shall miss your wonderful smile, your enthusiasm for music, and the inspiration you gave to thousands of young people.

I worked with Winston at Christleton High for many years. He was a wonderful head of department, a brilliant musician and a dear friend. I have so many happy memories of those days and I'm so happy that I knew him and Maureen well. Julia Williams
