I first became aquanted with Bill in the 60's, first through correspondence and then in person both in Leicester and on visits he made to London with Clare. I wrote for Bill's fanzine but we lost contact for many years. When we finally got back together it was like there has been no break in our friendship. Bill and Clare even booked a holiday to visit me and they brought with them their beloved dog Penny and we were able to have a good week together. I miss them greatly.

I first met Bill when I went to work at Cecil Jacobs in Leicester, Bill ran the mail order department in a three storey building on Chatham Street in the city. I joined him to
mail out cameras, rolls of film, lenses etc all this to the sounds of Fleetwood Mac
and Bill's wonderful funny stories and jokes. Never have I laughed so much in a place of work. Tears would roll down my face with laughter, now they roll with sadness.
Bill will stand in my memory as a kind decent and humane man. He had a dramatic influence upon me in the early 1980's. As the years went by, I often thought of him
and the times we spent together (We never did that much work - Just laughed alot).
Bill was a one off. I am saddened to hear of his passing and that of his beloved Wife.
My belated condolences to Bill's family & friends.

I am distressed to find Bill and Clare are no longer with us.

I met Bill in 1975 at a Star Trek convention at the Leicester Centre Hotel. He was a delightful fellow and had me to his home where he and Clare were the most gracious hosts.

After I returned home, we corresponded for several years through their happy and sad times and at some point lost track of each other. Tracking him down these years later and finding this tragedy is insufferable.

Time does not always heal all wounds, but opens new ones.

Words cannot describe the pain felt by the tragic loss of my Dad on the 23rd October 2007 at the age of 61, and then my Mum on the 28th aged 64. My heart broke. I cannot begin to imagine life without them both. Not a day goes by where i do not think about them or miss them. There is a hole in my heart now that they are gone. I cherish every heartfelt memory and long to hold them one more time. I love you both so much and miss you. You will always be remembered by me and Anna and we will always remember you to your 3 beloved grandchildren,Ellis, Lana & Cayden.

All my Love to you both forever

Stephen

May you rest together in peace.

xx

We only knew Bill and Clare for a short time. Their daughter Anna, is our daughter-in-law. They were such a lovely couple. I will always remember Clare as a caring and loving person. She was a born organizer and was happy when she was helping people. Bill was fun loving with a love of wildlife. They both thought the world of our shared grandchildren. They will be sadly missed by myself and my husband John. Stephanie Wood
