Passed away peacefully at Red House Nursing Home, Maids Moreton on the 27th June 2024 aged 90 years.

Bernard will be remembered as its first Headteacher to open Longbenton Comprehensive High School, North Tyneside (1969-1975) and then as Headteacher of Gosforth High School, now Gosforth Academy, (1975-1988).

He subsequently worked in the School of Education at Newcastle University. He was deeply involved in the magistracy for thirty years.

The funeral will take place at Bierton Crematorium on Tuesday 16th July 2024 at 10.30am. Reception at The Swan, Winslow Road, Great Horwood, Buckinghamshire, MK17 0QN.

Bernard was a man with presence in formal settings in particular Magistrates Courts which he Chaired with authority and understanding. Away from that I recall a popular gregarious man, who in years gone by would enjoy a drink with friends in the Black Horse in Monkseaton.

I was fortunate to have Bernard as my mentor when I was first appointed as a Magistrate. His knowledge, kindness and wealth of experience were invaluable and served me well over the years that followed.
