Hugh was my Family Law supervisor at Cambridge in 2005-06, a considerable time after his "official" retirement. He was a very kind and inspirational teacher who pushed me to fulfil my potential, and he never lost his good humour. He was an immensely distinguished scholar and maintained his interest in the field well into his later years. I now supervise Family Law at Cambridge myself, thanks in no small part to his example. I offer my deepest condolences to Hugh's friends and family.
