Adrian was the "Bill Shankley' of Chemistry - nothing was more important! He was a brilliant educator and I enjoyed every minute being in his Team. His magic finger brought any class to order. His lower school schemes of work were brilliant and helped every student to develop the lessons.I am eternally grateful for spending many years under his guidance.

Very sad news. Good memories of Adrian as a fellow member of staff ay both Whitgift and in our move to Franklin when the Sixth Form College was created.

I have such strong memories of Mr Birks, even 40 years after leaving school. He was a truly inspiring teacher, had a wicked sense of humour and was a kind and lovely man. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

The best teacher I ever had, never a dull moment in one of his classes. Met him a few times over the years and glad I got the chance to let him know what a massive influence he had on me and my career choice.
RIP Mr Birks

If you didn’t like chemistry but had Mr Birks as a teacher, you would soon come to like the subject. Funny, easy to talk to and respectful, Mr Birks was one of a kind. RIP Sir x
