Ian RobertBLACKPassed away peacefully at home on Friday 19th February, 2021, aged 80 surrounded by his family. Ian was a treasured husband to Siobhan, and an adored father to Charlotte, Eleanore and Ian. He was a devoted grandfather to Lochy, Gabriel, Beau, Elisabeth and Isabelle. He was dearly loved by his nieces and nephew, Beanie, Ninkie and Adam, and was a caring grand-uncle to Harry, George, Jana, Aedan and Kaye. He was a big brother to Andrew and loved all his family, especially Adrian, Bear, Dave, Paul and Suzy. He was grateful for all the happy Christmases that were spent together. Ian and Siobhan were married for 45 years and loved each other dearly. They were inseparable and true soulmates. He lived his life to the full. Ian started flying at the age of sixteen, in his lifetime he flew over 24 different aircraft types. His first job was with Silver City Airways, he then joined British Airways aged 19 and ended his 42 year aviation career with Dragonair in Hong Kong. Ian was an outdoors man and some of the hobbies he enjoyed included sailing, shooting, diving, archery, tennis and horse riding on Exmoor. He was a creative artist, wood, and leather worker; and also wrote many funny and imaginative stories and letters. He was kind, generous and a true gentleman, with a dry sense of humour and a sharp wit. He was immensely popular and greatly loved, and will be very deeply missed by all his family and friends. A private family funeral will be held at St John's church in Chittlehamholt. Family flowers only, but donations to North Devon Hospice would be welcome in grateful appreciation for all their care and support. We would like to express special thanks to Dr. Higgs, CNS Julie Hoyle and all the nursing staff at home and NDDH. Enquiries c/o Braddicks & Sherborne Funeral Directors, No 1 Abbotsham Road, Bideford, EX39 3AF (01237) 477222.

Daddums, I think of you every day but there is an even bigger Dad shaped void at Christmas! You got so carried away with the decorations, you were so enthusiastic about the joy of Christmas and togetherness - I do feel some of the glue has gone with you, and certainly a lot of the humour!
We talk about you every day as always, today I shared with the twins how you teased me that Toby the horse had departed! I was laughing as I informed them that my teasing parenting style is a result of my own upbringing!
You are still guiding the way, this is as a result of being so present and available to us, I know what you would say most of the time and for that I am so grateful.
I love you Dad, you are the best xxxxx

Dearest Dad, another birthday without you. We talk about you every single day and miss you immeasurably. I still can’t believe you are gone, and yet feel the loss so acutely that it seems impossible for one to exist with two contrasting mindsets. With so much love, El xxx

Dear Dad, I cannot believe it’s been three years. You were so steadfastly present that it’s impossible to fully accept that you are gone.
I miss your wisdom, wit, humour and guidance, I miss too many things to articulate.
I will always be so proud of you.
With lots and lots of love,
El, Gabe, Elisabeth and Isabelle xxx
