LeslieBLAKELeslie (Les) Blake, aged 89 years of Plympton, Plymouth. Passed away peacefully on Sunday 19th July 2026 after a long battle with COPD and cardiac issues, with his beloved wife by his side.

Les began his working life in the Navy, serving as a navigator on early rescue helicopters, before going on to a long career as a prison officer. He was a Senior Officer at Dartmoor Prison where he worked until his retirement.

Outside of work, his passions were the sea and outdoors. Whether deep sea fishing or out on one of his own boats, which he owned for most of his life until ill health finally took that joy from him.

In 1988 Les was awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to charitable work. He led a fundraising drive from Dartmoor that raised enough money for the purchase of an Arun Class Lifeboat for the RNLI, a cause close to his heart.

A much loved husband, father, grandad and great-grandad, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The Funeral service will take place at The Park Crematorium, Ceremony Room 2, Merafield Road, Plympton, PL7 1UQ on Friday 14th August at 10.30am.

Family flowers only please, donations if desired for RNLI may be left via the family memorial and giving site: https://leslie-blake-1937-2026.muchloved.com/ All enquiries to Walter C. Parson Plympton, PL7 1QW Tel: 01752 343848

Very sorry to hear of the passing of les blake..
I got to know les when I joined Hooe point sailing about 16 years ago.
He made me feel very welcome and passed on his fishing knowledge by giving me some folders with fishing marks etc.. A very rare kind thing to do in the fishing world.
I always looked upon les as a man's man but deep down he was a gentleman.
He lived a full and meaningful life which few men can replicate..
RIP Les..
Thanks for the advice and memories.

Gary Hignett.
