JohnBONDIt is with great sadness that we announce that John Bond passed away, age 95 on 4th March 2023, peacefully at home in the loving care of his family. Cherished husband of the late Ivy beloved Dad to David and Christine, Father-in-Law of Jeannette, brother of David and much loved Grandad and Great-Grandad. John was born in 1927 to the late Clara and Thomas and was brought up on Commercial Street in Oswaldtwistle with his 4 siblings. His early life saw him serve with the Army during WWII and on returning, he met and married Ivy in September 1951. John spent most of his working life at John Woods Steel Drums on Victoria Street, working his way up to works manager, but he always remained one of the Lads, until he retired in 1992 age 65. John embraced his retirement fully enjoying many holidays with Ivy and family in the UK, with the Isle of Man and Isle of Wight being firm favourites, and then, when in their 80's they got their first passports and travelled to Oregon and Las Vegas with Dave and Jeannette. John was an active member and past President of the Globe Bowling Club, Captaining the Vets team. When John's bowling days were over, he spent many happy hours around the green enthusiastically supporting family and friends. After Ivy fell ill, with the loving support of his family, John lovingly cared for Ivy at home until she passed away in 2015 and the family take great comfort in knowing they are now reunited. John has had a long, full and happy life and may he rest in Peace. The funeral will take place on Friday 17th March at 1pm at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington. We request family flowers only please. If you wish to make a donation in John's memory, please do so to a charity of your choice. You could not meet John Bond and not be met with a genuine smile and hand shake.
My wife and I knew John from bowling and meeting in the Globe Club.
We knew him as a good, friendly, family man and he was a true ambassador for sportsmanship.
It was a pleasure to know him and be in his company. Thank you, John.
