My Grandma
Added by Amy
There are so many stories I could tell about my Grandma. She played such a massive part in my life and I feel so lost without her. As a little girl and then as a grown woman with children of my own, she made my world, their world, my family's and so many others' a brighter place. My Grandma was absolutely remarkable and will never be forgotten.
A memory from my childhood was told at my Grandma's funeral, which meant a great deal to me as I couldn't be there, due to living abroad. I must have been around four years old when my Grandma took me into the city centre to do some shopping. I don't remember this detail, but knowing my Grandma I know she would have been dressed in some of her smartest clothes.
She and I were walking from one shop to another and there was a young man in a doorway. Looking back, I think he was probably only in his late teens or early twenties. He was homeless, his hands were bloody. A lot of people will have just ignored him. Well, my Grandma- even with her terrible and chronic back pain- knelt down to chat to the young man. She was so lovely and kind with this stranger. She spoke to him like he was family. She genuinely cared.
Now, it's just one memory, but it certainly made a lasting impression on me and I think it's very telling of the wonderful lady my Grandma was. Her faith was more than just words or going to church, she loved God and other people dearly. She was generous to a fault, incredible with people, friendly, a social butterfly. Completely irreplaceable. She was the best.
Until we meet again, Grandma, I love you to the moon and back. We all do xxxx
