I met Andy for the first time in Sep ‘84 when we started our apprenticeship at ROF Nottingham. The first thing I remember was how thin he was and how big his feet were, what I’ll never forget was how big his smile was and how infectious his laugh was. There were 14 of us that joined in the summer becoming 15 in January. There were the ones that were ‘too cool for school’ and those that wouldn’t say ‘boo to a goose’ we were a very eclectic mix, and originally I didn’t care for Andy as he was good at everything and didn’t need to try. However, he quickly became the hub with 13/14 spikes of a wheel that has been rolling for approaching 40 years. His sense of humour and lust for life grounded the cool ones and protected the nervous ones and shone brightly for us all showing us the right way to live life, with a smile and a laugh. Unfortunately what burns bright can extinguish early and he will be sadly and deeply missed. I was so glad I could attend his tribute today to celebrate his life. Andy, always in my heart, and never forgotten, you’ll be missed massively
