Barbara Burkey 06/06/42 - 24/04/20 Precious memories of my very best friend Barbara - from June Retired nurse and nurse lecturer at Liverpool University, sadly passed away at Brimstage Manor Nursing Home, Brimstage. Barbara was dedicated to the profession of nursing, not just here in England but also in Malta where she spent the last seven years of her career establishing, through Liverpool University, a degree course for nurses at the University of Malta. For this and much more she was awarded the Maltese Cross for services to nursing. Her legacy will live on and can never be erased. She touched the heart of everyone she met, and her memory will be indelibly etched in our hearts forever. The current lockdown and distancing rules mean that Barbara's funeral service will have to be short and brief with only a few invited family members and friends present. However, once lockdown is eased sufficiently to allow the country to get back to some semblance of normality, a celebration of Barbara's life will be held, and all family members including Debbie from Australia, Gary from South Africa, Ian, Jason and many friends, colleagues and ex-students from Malta, plus of course all her many wonderful friends here in the UK will gather to pay tribute to her life and achievements. Barbara, I will always love and miss you, we have shared fifty or more years together as best friends and like sisters. I will treasure many wonderful memories. You are so loved. God Bless, Rest in Peace. Grateful thanks to all the staff at Brimstage Manor, especially the trained nurses and carers they could not have done more. The funeral and cremation will be at Landican Crematorium on Tuesday 26th May 2020 at 1:50pm. The short private service will be for few family and friends only (due to lockdown). No flowers please, but donations gratefully received to Alzheimer's Research UK, via Charles Stephens Funeral Directors, tel: 0151 645 4396. A short thanksgiving by Rev Beth Glover, tributes - followed by food and drinks will be held at a Wirral venue to be agreed. Details will be advertised and given nearer the time and as soon as it is possible to do so.
