I am really sorry to learn that Alan has passed away. I was in the same form as him at Stockport School, and considered him one of the best. I was well aware of his musical talents from his work in the school's Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. The music world will miss Alan!

I'm sorry to learn of Alan's death, though several months after the event. It was a privilege to sing with Alan at Stockport School and to have some awareness of his professional career as a singer after university, not least in the Swingle Singers. Special thoughts! RIP

Alan was a close friend through our time at Junior School, Mile End and university - formative years a long time ago but not forgotten. RIP dear friend

An unforgettable cousin whose musical talents began to be apparent at a very young age when he began to learn to play the piano. Later, he developed into a fine tenor singer and, at Stockport School won a choral scholarship to King's College, Cambridge. His professional life included a variety of performances in Covent Garden operas, membership of the Swingles, BBC Singers and others. But, on a personal level, I remember his loud joviality and, in our younger days, our train- and plane-spotting activities. I am proud to say that Alan played the organ at my wedding at Northenden Methodist Church where he irreverently started proceedings with 'I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside'! Such was his sense of humour.
