Meeting Miles was the best thing that ever happened to me, and I am so grateful for the time that we spent together. Everyone will tell you that we were a perfect match, and that we lived only for each other and Hayley. He would often ask me, if I had known then what I know now, would I do it all again? And the answer was always, without a doubt, a resounding yes – I could never have dreamt of finding the happiness that I felt with Miles every single day. Not only was he my beloved Husband, he was my guiding light, my partner in all things and my best friend. He made me feel safe and scared, certain and confused, calm and exhilarated, all at the same time. I love him more than I ever thought was possible, and I never doubted how much he loved me. What more could anyone ask for?

My Lovely Man, one year ago today, your heart stopped beating – and mine broke into a million pieces, the world is a much darker place without you. People tell me that time will heal my pain, so I will try my best to keep going and hope that you are proud of me. I love and miss you so very much every second of every day, always on my mind, forever in my heart. Rest easy until we can be together again…

All my love to you, as always

Bear. xxx

I only knew Miles through his brilliant design he did on my race helmet during my International Racing career. Miles's brother Simon & I worked together for 12 months in the electrical industry.
Miles & his design was noticed & appreciated by quite a number of racing friends of mine over the years, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rayney, Ralf Schumacher, Mick Doohan, to name a few all commented on it!
A simple design transferred visually, an excerpt from the Karelia Suite by Sibelius (Theme tune to the TV series "This Week") the score showing the notes etc the name "Sibelius" written at the top (My mates to this day call me Sibelius as I was known as Sir Bailey, the gentleman of the track). This was then fused into a racing chequered flag on the front & a silhouette of me holding a trophy in the air walking off into a beautiful sunset. This helmet travelled the world with me & I still treasure it today at certain events.
Miles you were & still are a genius, you took a simple idea & brought it to life for me, my thanks are extended. You live on in my helmet.

A contemplation of Miles and his values?
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
excerpts from Desiderata by Max Ehrmann c.1920.

I was lucky enough to spend time with Miles and the gang, many of whom have added their memories here.
I too remember the creation of the 'Staff of Power', Miles' break dancing episode at one of Jo's parties which I think I still have on video somewhere ; it caused a few minutes of hilarity for us all one night at Manda and Miles' after one of their 'Rat' parties.
I am sure we will do many similar things again and as he was with us for so many of them in the past, I am sure he will be with with us for those in the future. That is the beauty of friendship, each of us will remember Miles at different times, in different ways for different things. A party, trip to the lakes, a weekend away. Whatever it may be, one of us will turn to the others and say "Remember when we were.... and (Jo, Sam, Jacki, Jason, Mark, Jason, Ian, whoever) said....., Miles would have loved this".
And we'll all agree.
