AnthonyCHADWICKMr Anthony Thomas Chadwick, of Windsor Avenue, Accrington passed away peacefully in Royal Blackburn Hospital on Sunday, December 19, aged 76. The absolutely devoted and truly loved husband of Pauline, Tony was also a very dear brother to Maureen, Joyce and Sheila and her dear husband David. He was the son of the late George and Alice Chadwick. He had dear nephews Darren, David and Jason and also nieces Joanne and Jorena. Tony was an absolutely truly good and loyal friend to all, and loved by so many. He was born in Accrington and attended Green Haworth Primary School and later St Christopher’s CE High, both of which he truly loved and really excelled at. On leaving school he first worked as an apprentice locksmith at J.W. Bridges Ltd, Church Street, Accrington, before embarking and deciding he wanted to join the Royal Navy at 16 as a junior seaman, and worked through the ranks to become a petty officer in his 12 years of service. He said that those years of his Royal Navy life were truly the best years of his life, except for when he met his loving wife Pauline. He was extremely proud of his Royal Navy career, and wouldn’t have missed it for the world. On leaving the navy he was self-employed as a plumber in Gillingham in Kent. However, in 1977 he came back to Accrington where he met the love of his life, Pauline, and they married in June 1979 at Huncoat Methodist Church. Also in June 1979 he started work for the Post Office as a postman, a job which he absolutely loved, however in 1982 he was given the chance to work on the post office counters in different towns, a job which he stayed in until his retirement. Together, Tony and Pauline enjoyed numerous holidays abroad including his favourite places - The Greek Island of Skiathos, and also Calpe in Spain. Tony was an extremely avid reader, reading both paper and hardback books and also his kindle, and would often have more than one book on the go at once. His other hobbies included gardening, walking, photography and watching sports on TV including golf, cricket, football, Formula 1, and many more. In Tony’s later life they were welcomed into Cambridge Street Methodist Church, where they have made many good friends and Tony was fighting to make the church succeed further, and he absolutely enjoyed doing this. The service will be held on Thursday, January 6 at Cambridge Street Methodist Church, Accrington at 12 noon followed by burial at Accrington Cemetery at 1pm.
