It was due to Charles Buddy Tingwell that I entered the British Film Industry in the late fifties.Charles was in London working on the TV series Emergency Ward Ten it was during the late fifites that many Aussys appeared to arrive in London, the favourite watering hold was a frequented pub called The Surrey, just a few minutes walk from Australia House in the Strand,it was the only pub at the time in London to serve Fosters Draught industry
Actors like Chips Raferty having just finished shooting the interiors of the
"The Sundowners"was around as well as Jerold Tate,John Bluthal,Grant Taylor,John Melion,Peter Finch, and Mike Noonan of Flying Doctir fame, who was brought across by Lord Ted Willis to th UK .
These were great times and if Charles and Chip hadn't introducing me ( through my Mother Hetty) to the right contacts I woudn't have had such a successful career they introduced me to Paul Wyand Assigments Manager of British Movietonenews this really gave me a kick statrt, and eventualy enabled me to win an Oscar and Two Prime Emmy Awards at a later date
The memories will alway be in my thoughts
Thanks Australia and you Charles RIP

Buddy was an Australian legend, a brilliant actor and wonderful ambassador for Australia, but more importantly he was a life-long friend to my family. He was a wonderful, amusing, loyal and loving friend. We miss him already, and our thoughts go to him and the family he loved so much.
I was very proud to be able to get him in to see the production of "Riverdance" I was touring with several years ago, and the buzz of the crowd around me- "Christ, it's bloody Buddy Tingwell"- as I was chatting to a life-long family friend was both surreal and warming. I was also shouted at by the local Promoters- "Why didn't you tell us it was for Buddy- we would have given him good seats!" His influence went far!
I miss my parents' friend- I miss a man I only got to know a little, later in life. I miss a man whom I loved from the moment we met all those years ago, when I was a dumb kid, supporting the England cricket team. He still forgave me!
Love ya, Bud.
