Ken’s passing is extremely sad for his family for which we send our sincere condolences but also for those of us who knew him and worked with him. I always regarded Ken as one of the originals along with the likes of Jack Lilly, John Fraser, Harold Birchenough and others who came from Albright and built the original Midland Silicones manufacturing facility in what was a derelict WW2 site, namely Ocean Salts.

They were a group of very resourceful engineers and Ken was up there with the best. At a time when steel was in short supply and priority for war rebuilding work they used their skills and initiatives, acquired old Lancashire boilers, sealed up the holes and converted them into storage tanks thereby allowing the start of production which became the foundations of the fine plant that stands on the site today. What is the old saying, we all stand on the shoulders of giants, Ken was certainly one of those.

I also have to add my admiration for his other gift of completing the entire rendering of The Pheasant Plucker without hesitation or mistake at his regular attendances at the Plough and Harrow. God bless you Ken, Rest in Peace.
