CHRISTOPHER MCCALLIONRelatives of two brothers who died during a climbing trip to Snowdonia described them as "smashing lads".Christopher McCallion, 29, and his brother James, 35, were found dead on 2 February, 2009 after they were stranded in bad weather on Mount Snowdon.Full-time triathlete and marine surveyor Christopher, of Severn Beach, Bristol, and brother James, of Weston-super-Mare, had been tackling popular climbing spots on Snowdon as part of their training for several Ironman events in 2009.Christopher and his wife Katie-Ann, who gave birth to their first child in September, called their newborn son James Jr, after Christopher's brother.Christopher' s father-in-law, John Cox, said the family was "devastated".He said: "Chris and James were two smashing lads. (Their wives are) both in tears and utterly devastated. I'm keeping them under my wing and we're doing all we can to look after them at this tragic time."We're a very close family and friends have been very kind with their support."They checked the weather conditions before they set off, but they were both very experienced climbers and sensible lads, so we had no reason to worry. They were well-equipped with everything they needed and we had no fears that something like this could happen – it's a complete shock."The brothers were found on Monday 2 February on the mountainside at Clogwyn Coch, not far from the summit of Snowdon. They had arrived in Snowdonia on the Friday and had planned to start climbing the mountain on Saturday.Christopher had recovered from a leg injury and was training alongside James to take part in marathons and the UK Ironman Triathlon later this year.Christopher completed the Ironman Triathlon in Nice in France in 2005 to raise £6,000 for Cancer Research UK in memory of his father, who died from the disease.Despite breaking his neck in a cycling accident six months before the challenge, he swam 24 miles, cycled 112 and then ran a 26.2-mile marathon in a triathlon described as the most challenging in Europe.

Dear Chris, The world does not seem the same without you in it, you were a truly great friend, full of kindness and lots of smiles.

You never ceased to amaze me with your capabilities - from building sheds and home DIY to arranging the best parties. I'll always remember a lycra clad man cycling past me with a big smile on his face, and until you said 'Hello Em' I didn't realise it was you! and when you and Richie came to my rescue at 10 o'clock at night to search for a rat - you turned the flat upside-down and couldn't find anything - it became a standing joke that I'd imagined it. And I remember when you knocked on the door to take Kate on your first date. All such beautiful happy memories and I am so lucky to have so many more.

Chris we will all miss you so much, it was a pleasure to know you and you will never be forgotten.

Lots of Love Emma x

My heartfelt sympathy to the families of these two men - how very very sad.
An old friend of mine was a mountaineer and said as he became too ill that the place he wanted to be was on one of his mountains to leave this mortal coil and be at peace.

Im sure that it is of no comfort to these brothers loved ones and it at no point takes away the sadness, but Snowdon is gods own and its awe inspiring beauty it majestic and breath taking.

I can only imagine the grief and heartache and hope that the famliy of these men find peace in some way.

Chris, my Brother. Without you in this world stars will not shine so bright, the sun will not feel so hot and good times will not feel so good. You made me feel happy when you were around. You never judged and you always offered support. Katie, baby James and you were an incredible family unit. I will do my best to make sure that they have the support that you provided. I will miss you so much and will never forget you. Your loving Brother Daniel xxx

I Believe I and my climbing partner may have been the last people to speak with the brothers before the tragic accident occured. We passed them whilst traversing the Grib Goch section ,(Having summited via a route called the Parsons Nose,on the North Face, and then parsley Fern Gully, and hence onto the Ridge.) On the narrow section of the ridge I saw the brothers were approaching us from the opposite direction ,and as they were moving at speed accross the ridge we moved aside to let them pass.We had brief exchange of pleasantries,ie Hi Guys ,how you doing, Beautiful Day,Take it easy, etc. They then passed us and we continued on our way. I turned one last time and watched as they scrambled over a steep rock section looking fit and strong and then lost site of them.I commented to my friend Richard,"Pretty Tough guys".

I am very sorry for your loss, and understand the extent of your grief,as I lost my father in a tragic accident a few years ago. My thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
