Miriam HelanaCOBLEYpassed away peacefully on 30th January 2023, aged 100 yrs. Beloved Wife of the late Wilton Cobley and also a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Miriam will be deeply missed by her family and many friends after a long and very varied life. She is survived by her two daughters after losing her son 16 months ago. Miriam was in the Land Army stationed in Alkborough, near Scunthorpe during the 2nd World War and went on to marry Wilton Cobley when he returned after serving in the Army for the duration. They were told they would have no children, but went on to have 3, Gerard, Ann and Carol, she now has 7 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. Miriam founded the Cleethorpes Inner Wheel and was the last founding member to survive, taking part in many Charity and Fundraising events, and was still an active member after her 100th Birthday. Miriam moved to Holton le Clay with Wilton in 1987 joining the Church, with Miriam in the Choir for many years, they also took part in many of the Summer Fayres. Miriam made and decorated some very unusual cakes to be raffled off, some of these being used for very special occasions by the winners while Wilton made wooden boot scrapers, black cats etc. for his stall. Miriam attributes her longevity to Tai Chi 3 times a week and walking around the village daily, which she kept up throughout Lockdown, with a kind word for anyone she met and a special hello for all the dogs. Keeping active had been her goal her whole life, walking her Golden Retrievers and working in her garden. As a couple they travelled extensively on retirement and Miriam still has contacts all over the world. Her service is at Saint Peter's Church, Holton Le Clay on Friday 24th February at 1.15 pm with cake and coffee at the Holton Le Clay village hall after. Miriam requested a dress code of smart and casual (not black). Flowers: Family only, in lieu of flowers, Miriam requested that donations be made to the Blind Veterans UK - a donations box will be at the church and village hall.
