DennisCOONEYof Church, Accrington, passed away peacefully in hospital surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 26, aged 82. The devoted husband of Marjorie, step-father of Simon, Martyn, David, Paul and their families, loved brother of Kevin, Kathleen, Brenda, Rita, Alicia, John and Kenneth. Dennis also leaves many relatives and friends, many of whom are in Australia. Born and raised in Accrington, Dennis was one of ten children. Following his school years Dennis began his working life at JW Bridges Iron Mongers. He also spent time working as a lorry driver at Spencers and Gilbraith’s for a short time as a bus driver. Dennis made the decision to emigrate to Australia to be near other family members. Here he found work as a paramedic, working his way up to chief ambulance officer before retirement. He was a keen sportsman, enjoying golf and football and Dennis always kept himself fit and healthy. Following his retirement, Dennis spent many happy times with his wife and soulmate Marjorie travelling around Australia, and they also enjoyed visits to Indonesia and the Far East. Dennis will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, September 13 at 10am. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Joseph’s RC Church, Belgarth Road, Accrington followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium.
