EricCORBRIDGEof Tor View, Haslingden, died on Saturday, December 28, at Turfcote Nursing Home, Haslingden, aged 82. He leaves his wife Jean, son Frank, daughter Jeanette, daughter-in-law Jenny, four grandchildren Rachel, Karen, Terry and Michael, great-grandchildren and his brother Alan. Eric was a keen sportsman all his life, playing football for Accrington Stanley, Watford, and Blackburn Rovers and cricket for Haslingden and North Devon. He was a champion crown green bowler with Haslingden Bowling Club, played football during his national service and took part in a final trial for the Rome Olympics of 1960. Eric worked as an engineer at S.S.Stott and retired from Kay Steels. He was a member of Haslingden Methodist Church and in his spare time he enjoyed caravanning and gardening. The funeral took place on Monday, January 13, with a service at Haslingden Methodist Church, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium officiated by Rev Louise Makin.
