Well dad its been a few months now. You've been reunited with mum no doubt. Hopefully you got a bit of a rest before mum got you doing the hoovering! It's strange, now you, mum and Pauline have moved on. The original Cottrell clan is now just Peter and myself. With the next generation of our families fit, strong and growing as well. Thank you for the great start in life. Thank you and mum for all you did for us even though we all left home so young. We all did well as your children very much so from the start and approach to life you taught us. It is a shame that we were all so far away from you over the last decade when you got really old. But you don't plan for that when you are setting your life and goals down. I wouldn't expect my children to think of me and Julie in the future either. Life isn't ;like that. Thankfully you had the best of neighbours and friends nearby. Much more useful than our telephone calls home I'm sure. You were a stubborn dad in the end, refusing all help, to ensure you were at home at the end. I always told you I loved you when we spoke or when I visited and hugged, albeit you never quite got used to it! My only regret is that I never got to say I love you before you passed, but who ever does unless its on a death bed? Thanks Dad for the fond loving memories. You did well, rest in peace, provided mum does not get you doing to much house work!

A fine gentleman that I have known for fifty years - we whiled away many an afternoon with humorous discussion. I miss his warmth.
