BruceCOXIt was with much sadness that I learned today of the death of my friend Bruce Cox, who lived in Bideford in the '80 s and '90 s before moving to Malaysia. I'm sure many still remember him. Bruce was one of a vanishing breed --- a human being who cared about other people, whether family or strangers, and put that care into action. It's no exaggeration to say that his presence probably saved my life when battling depression and the misguided use of alcohol to counter it. He invited me to visit him in Malaysia where I witnessed first hand the similar care and help he gave to complete strangers. He made many friends in Indonesia and Malaysia, including someone who suggested this statement of respect and gratitude. He was an ordinary, down to earth man, with ordinary imperfections, but with what is fast becoming an extraordinary willingness and ability to help others. Rest in Peace Bruce. From someone who could only aspire to your relaxed, laid back way of encouraging people to change their lives for the better. Chris Garnett.

I have only known Bruce and Anna for the last year or so. They have visited me in my home and I have visited them where they were staying. Bruce was a lovely gentle funny man and he and Anna so happily married. I loved it when Bruce was so obviously in the wrong and then he would apologise to Anna so unlike so many other people. They were truly a wonderfully strong and happy couple and I know Anna will miss him terribly as will I Tina
