JackCURRIEJack (Jackie) Currie, of Great Harwood, passed away peacefully at Sherwood House on January 25, aged 89 years. The devoted husband of the late Mattie, a much loved and loving dad of Craig and his daughter-inlaw Darina, an adored papa to Olivia and his beloved ‘grand-dog’ Spike. Dear brother to Derek and a respected relative and good friend to many. Born in Scotland, Jack moved to Lancashire at the age of 17 after being recruited as a player for Accrington Stanley. He proudly played for the club for seven years, where he became known as ‘Jackie,’ before an injury forced him to retire. Following his football career, he worked in electrical circuit manufacturing before qualifying as an electrician and setting up his own business. He became a well known and highly respected tradesman in the local area, always proud to share that he had installed the lighting at St Bartholomew’s Church. Jack never lost touch with his Scottish roots and cherished his visits ‘home’ to see family and friends. He and his beloved wife, Mattie, shared a love of travel, especially their frequent holidays to their favourite hotel in Spain. A true sun worshipper, Jack loved nothing more than soaking up the sun on his favourite lounger, keeping his year-round tan topped up. A keen dancer, he always looked forward to his weekly visits to White Hall Country Club, where he enjoyed catching up with friends, sharing a drink, and taking a spin on the dance floor. Above all, Jack was a devoted family man who treasured every moment spent with his loved ones. Flowers are welcome, or donations in Jack’s memory can be made to Alzheimer's Society.
