DANNY STREETwas a well-known face on the biggest television variety shows of the 1970s and 80s - but probably had even more exposure on theradio.
As a session singer, he appeared on Morecambe and Wise, The Two Ronnies, The Val Doonican Show and The Des O'Connor Show and spent 14 years with the Cliff Adams Singers on BBC Radio 2's Sing Something Simple. Previously he was the vocalist with the Johnny Howard Band on BBC radio's Easy Beat.
He died on April 21, 2010, and 68. He was survived by his wife, Helenor, two daughters and a son.
Danny was born Joseph Wilson Drysdale at Stirling on April 22 1941.
In 1962 he was in the Alec Finlay Summer Season at the Palladium Theatre in Edinburgh, and then joined the Johnny Howard Band.
After changing his name at the behest of the record company, some years later Danny La Rue chose his name only because his first choice - Danny Street - already sang.
From 1979 he became a popular star guest on Radio 2's Big Band Special, both in the studio and touring the UK.
Singing at the Nordring Radio Festival in Jersey in 1981 was one of the highlights of his career.
He retired in 1995.
