DAVID SPINKTributes have been paid to David Spink, who died on 17 May, 2008, aged 19, after crashing his car into a tree.Mr Spink, of Whitton, Scunthorpe, died at the scene of the accident near Bishop Thorpe Farm Cottage, West Halton. His death was the fourth on North Lincolnshire’s roads in the first five months of 2008 - and the third in the 10 previous days. Two passengers in the car – Josh Hindley and Jack Bruce, both 18 – were also injured in the crash which happened at around 3.45am on Saturday. The spot where Mr Spink, known as Spinky, died was marked by dozens of bouquets of flowers and emotional farewell notes.Friends left loving messages. One read: "So sad that you’ve gone. You will never be forgotten but remembered every day."The pile included mementoes such as a pint of beer, a magazine about shooting, some cartridges, and even snack foods. The emotional tributes were taped to the flowers and the tree where the accident happened, as well as inscribed into its branches.Mr Spink’s former headteacher, John Fitzgerald, at Winterton Comprehensive School in Scunthorpe, paid tribute to him."Everyone who knew David is shocked and deeply saddened by the news of his tragic death," he said. "We remember David as an energetic and sociable person with a wide circle of friends."David left school three years ago. But I was only speaking to him a few weeks ago at a social occasion and he was telling me about his job and his hopes for the future."I was struck by how mature and responsible he had become and by how much he had to look forward to. It is hard to believe that this happened. We are all thinking about his family and friends who must be devastated by this loss."Ambulance crews fought to save the life of the teenager, who was driving a red Rover 214, but he died at the scene. The tragedy left the community stunned.Mr Spink was a regular player with the Scunthorpe Tuesday Pool League side at the Flixborough Inn.Landlady Kerry Stanley said: "Everyone has been stunned by his death at such a young age. His fellow players have decided to resign from the pool league as a mark of respect and we shall be hosting a memorial trophy contest in his honour."He was also a junior player for six seasons with Alkborough Cricket Club and made his mark as a fast bowler.Club president Ralph Gray said: "David was a very pleasant lad, unassuming and very modest. He was well-liked and always ready to listen to advice."In his spare time he enjoyed wild-fowl shooting and walking his dog along the banks of the river."Passenger Josh Hindley, who sustained a broken nose and wrist in the crash, is the lead singer with Winterton-based rock band Neversed who appeared with Status Quo at a festival in 2007.Neversed manager Clive Pinchbeck said: "David was a great friend of the band and one of their most loyal fans, having attended most of their gigs. It is a very sad situation and a tragic loss of life. We are all deeply upset."

I will always remember when me, you, Speedy and Jak were at your house, and we were riding round the ped in your garden...got it on video still...and when we had that "do" at mine for Speedys birthday...and the time that we were in that field and i was nearly crying at the cows running over to us and you ran at them and growled...not forgetting that party you had and we were on next doors trampoline and he chased us back to yours!
All happy memories of you though...
Rest in peace Spinky...
Loadsa love,
Gem xxx
