Mary MavisDAVIESof Merlin Court, Oswaldtwistle, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 9, aged 93. She left school at 14 to become a weaver, principally at Enfield Mills and Three Brooks. Following her retirement in 1983 after a serious breast cancer operation, she went on to be treated twice more in the 90s and more recently in 2011 and so for 36 years remained a cancer survivor! Her interests were very much her family and memorable holidays. She had travelled to friends in Israel on a few occasions with her sister Sheila and brother-in-law Brian (who to Mavis was a brother). Having lost her father when she was nine years old and growing up with very little, these trips for most of her life had been impossible dreams. Loving wife of the late Bob, much-loved mum of Kevin and Malcolm, dear mother-in-law of Ann and Slawka, cherished grandma of Robert and Sarah, treasured greatgrandma of Aaron, Iona and Polly and dearlyloved sister of Peggy and Sheila. A funeral service was held on Monday, January 20, at Immanuel Church, Oswaldtwistle, followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium. Donations, if desired, to be made payable to Cancer Research UK c/o Kirby and Hughes Funeral Directors. The family would like to extend huge thanks and appreciation to both friends and care staff.
