BerylDAVIESIt is with great sorrow we announce the death of Beryl Davies, age 85 years, at home in Nunthorpe, on Tuesday the 25th of May 2021; daughter of Edgar and Mabel Hartas, sister of Gordon, wife of Bill, mother of Jill and Claire and grandmother of Peter and Senbeto. Beryl faced her final days with great peace and joy in being surrounded by her own family; a courage in death that will be forever an inspiration to us. Born in Middlesbrough, her early childhood was memorable for the Second World War; an era she recalled as easier than the isolation imposed by the time of coronavirus, even though she spent many nights in an air raid shelter in the garden dug by her father. She was determined to be a teacher and went on to teacher training college. Teaching came naturally to Beryl, in particular the reception years with whom she was gifted. She knew instinctively what pupils were up to even when her back was turned. Children said she had eyes in the back of her head. Beryl remained as a teacher for the whole of her career and found great joy in young children. Beryl was always inspired by nature, able to name every wildflower and a keen watercolour painter. Weekends saw her out with her family on country walks, point-to-pointing or by the sea. She loved fashion and make up, never missing an edition of Vogue for 50 years, reading every one from cover to cover before pronouncing all items unwearable. In her later years, she struggled with arthritis, something she faced with determination to continue enjoying the things she loved as much as possible. Beryl greatly wished to die at home. We are humbled and grateful to those that came together in her final days to make this vision a reality. We are forever indebted to Macmillan, South Tees Palliative Care, Hambleton District Nurses, Great Ayton Health Centre and finally, Walker and Harrison Care who tended to all of us and became like family in those final, bittersweet hours. Funeral Service to take place at Christ Church, Great Ayton, Monday 7th of June at 1pm prior to cremation at Teesside Crematorium. Donations if so desired to Versus Arthritis. All enquiries to Rea Funeral Service, Great Ayton. Tel: 01642 724796
