DIANE HOLLANDComic actress Diane Holland was best known for her role as the condescending dance instructor Yvonne Stewart-Hargreaves in the holiday camp sitcom Hi-De-Hi!
In the show she played a former ballroom dancing champion who had seen better days and was horrified at having to work in a Butlins-style holiday camp.
Always keen to preserve her dignity, it was not always possible. In one memorable episode she and her screen husband Barry were forced to put on a children’s show, grimacing through a play about "drinking a glass of sunshine" while dressed as a pixie and a fairy.
She also had parts in Crossroads, Casualty and Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em in a long stage and screen career.
She had been suffering from broncho-pneumonia and died on 24 January, 2009, at the age of 78.
