I have only just heard this sad news after phoning the hospital and asking why I now have a different consultant and not my usual for my future appointments. I wasnt expecting to be told that he had unexpectedly passed away. And I didn't expect that news to hit me like it has.
Dr Dobson was everything a consultant should be, after suffering with chronic gastro issues for nearly 18 years he was the first doctor to take me seriously and keep pushing until he got me the answers and an official diagnosis,he did not stop until we got there and he did not stop when we got there, his ongoing care, support and advice was like no other. He advocated for me like no doctor had ever done before.
Such professionalism, compassion and kindness,a lovely genuine man who had true dedication and passion for his chosen medical path, and so so funny with it! His smile, laughter and positivity was infectious, you never had a chance to feel anxious or nervous having an appointment with him, he had a way of making that just disappear.
I read earlier the tribute on the british society of gastroenterology.. As a dedicated physician and gastroenterologist in Cornwall, he touched the lives of tens of thousands of patients throughout his 23 years of service.
Myself included. And this sentence says it all.
He didn't just touch our lives,he has saved so many lives too! When many of us thought there was nowhere else to turn and felt like we couldn't go on,along came Dr Chris Dobson and showed us what a consultant should be and I will be forever grateful and thankful for everything he did for me over the last few years.
Sending so much love and thinking of his wife and children, family, friends and colleagues, you must all be so proud of the incredible man he was.
Every hospital needs a Dr Dobson, The NHS and Treslike gastro department were lucky to have you, as were your patients, you will be sadly missed by all who were lucky to cross paths with you.
Your legacy shall live on. Rest in peace Dr Dobson
