The news of Dr Dobson passing has shocked me, having believed he had left to go on another adventure I was shocked to find out during a procedure he had passed away only today, months later.
Dr Dobson was my SECOND gastroenterologist, he was kind, compassionate, humourous and above all he believed me and my symptoms - he was the first Dr to not suggest I was a hypochondriac and all my symptoms were in my head, he advocated for me in ways no Dr had before and truly provided me with the best care I could have asked for.
Dr Dobson was with me from diagnosis after seven years of suffering to emergency surgery a year later to resect my ileum - his guidance and fight for me to have this during my admission has allowed me to experience how amazing life can be in remission!
I recall our last conversation the day I was discharged from his service, we discussed the likelihood of the disease returning and my anxieties about it, I can still to this day very clearly recall him saying “go and live your life, don’t let fear stop you and if the disease comes back, you just call my secretary no referral needed and I will be here to get you back into remission again”
So Dr Dobson, as a patient who was failed so many times I cannot thank you enough for changing and saving my life in so many ways.
