JamesDONISTHRORPEIt is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of James Andrew Donisthorpe announce his passing on December 4th 2022, at the age of 93. James 'Jim' passed away peacefully in his 'home from home' at Mountview residential home, he will be lovingly remembered by his grandson Elliot, granddaughter Chanel, and family. Jim was born to James & Jessie Donisthorpe on 21st September 1929 and raised in Leicester, he grew up with his 3 siblings, his younger twin sisters Rose and June and his younger brother Sid on Taylor Street. Jim often recounted the early days of his life getting into mischief on abbey and victoria park. A proud Soldier in the army, Jim served in Mogadishu Africa. Upon returning home he met and married his lifelong partner and loving wife Joan, they spent the next 60 years of life together before her untimely passing in 2015. Jim and Joan spent the 60 years of their life building a loving and warm home, Jim was a proud and independent man who built his career in engineering supporting both his wife and daughter Debra. Jim's final move in his career took him to Leicester University where he retired after many happy years as Head of the Engineering Department. He often regaled tales of the engineering department and the team that worked alongside the professors. It was one of his proudest days to be welcomed back to the university as a part of the alumni to meet a number of the professors and see once again the restored iconic glass roof. Believe it or not at the ripe old age of 88 there were even still a few professors there that he had previously worked alongside 30 years prior. In Jim's later years, following the passing of his wife he enjoyed spending quality time with his family, he retained his independence however right to the very end and would often drive himself to the shops or out to see his grandchildren for a coffee and a bite to eat. He will be sorely missed, and will forever be loved by his family whom welcome all to attend his funeral service at All Souls Chapel (Loughborough Crematorium) on Tuesday 20th December at 10:15AM. Family flowers only, however charitable donations can be made payable to The British Heart Foundation.
