I had the pleasure of being great friends with Doug when we were children. Our paths went very different ways, but we would still once in a while catch up, over a pint. He was a great man, who will be missed by many. I will never forget Dougie Dalzell.

Dougie,

You were a great friend, a brilliant officer, and a gentleman of standard to which we all aspire.

You were second to none.

Your friend. Mav

I had the pleasure of getting to know Dougie in the summer of 2009 and his tragic death has truly saddened me. He had fantastic banter and constantly spoke highly of his family and his job. The whole pub on Saturday night had a drink for Dougie in Fulham and this shows how he touched many people’s lives and shall be deeply missed. Dougie was such a fun loving character and I shall always smile remembering him in a fancy dress costume. He had such an infectious personality that you could only laugh when he was around. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and work colleagues.

I had the honour and pleasure of meeting Dougie a few weeks before the battalion left for Afghanistan. It was in the White Horse in Emmer Green. I enjoyed a very pleasant evening with him and many other from the Coldstream Guards. I am much saddened by his death, and my thoughts are with his family. They can be proud of him.
