DavidDR DROTTDavid was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA to Mary Jane and Walter Drott. He attended Roger Bacon High School, then matriculated in the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Cincinnati. After graduating with highest honours, David entered the Seminary at Notre Dame University, Indiana, but stayed for only one term. He returned to the University of Cincinnati to continue working toward an MSc, but instead was offered a place at the University of Minnesota to earn a PhD. During that time he was awarded the rank of Captain in the Chemical Corps of the United States Army. It was at Minnesota that he met Sue Lundquist whom he married on 21st March 1970. In 1972 David became a Lecturer in the Chemical Engineering Department at Loughborough University. David retired in the summer of 2005 to pursue his love of mathematics, literature, and military history. He was an active member of the Parish Council at St Mary's Catholic Church and was also a regular worshipper at Mount St Bernard's Abbey, whose peaceful atmosphere he valued. He is survived by his wife Sue and their two sons, Stephen (St Paul, USA) and Gregory (London), as well as his brother Donald and sister Barbara and cousins. A memorial Mass with reception following will be held at 2.30pm on Wednesday April 12th, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ashby Road, Loughborough. In lieu of flowers please donate to WaterAid.
